About the Tool
The Digital Story Curriculum Planner is a resource for teachers wanting to implement digital story projects with their classes. Teachers may use this planner to generate a curriculum that is easy to use, regardless of your computer skills, with tools that are widely available.
Start with the See Examples section to see student work created using this curriculum. When you are ready, use the Plan Curriculum link to start work on your own customized classroom project. It is up to you to pick and choose what you will use from this curriculum with your students. You could start with a very simple project including only drawn pictures and text on the screen, and work up to more complicated stories that fully combine text, images, voice, and music.
Regardless of how you implement a digital, it will tap into the interest of students to motivate them to learn, write, and express themselves.
Special thanks to Sean McGrath and Tamara Sturak of the Expedition program at Roosevelt Middle School in Oakland, CA for introducing me to the wonderful world of digital storytelling. Thanks also to the brave teachers at Roosevelt who piloted this project-- Dave Suarez, Ileana de la Torre, Susan Yee, and X. Shi.
This project was created to complete the graduation requirements for a Master of Education, Instructional Technology from San Francisco State University. Thanks to my adviser, Professor Brian Beatty, and to those that provided input and feedback during the development of this site.
